How To Play Texas Holdem – Game Play
Now for how to play Texas Holdem. To begin you need a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Then you need at least one other person to play with. The game is better with a small group of 4 or 5 people. Between the group you must first set the betting rules, what is the minimum bet and what is the maximum bet. If there is a maximum bet. You do not have to play for money, you could just use chips.
If you have watched Texas Holdem on TV, you probably already know how to Play Texas Holdem. On television you usually see No Limit Texas Holdem, but in real life most of us have limits to how much money we can afford to lose. Now once the amount of the “blinds” is agreed upon, then a dealer is selected from among the group. On TV the dealer does not play poker with the other players. But outside of the casinos in the real world, the dealer position moves around the table from one person to the next, proceeding to his or her left.
Now you are ready to begin playing poker. All players must place bets before any cards are dealt. This is called “posting the blinds”. Play begins with the player directly to the left of the dealer, posting one half of the agreed upon minimum bet into the “pot” to start things off.
New players must first understand how poker hands are ranked, in order to be able to really play Texas Holdem, and commit that information to memory. However I cannot cover how poker hands are ranked in the scope of this article.
Now after blinds are posted each player receives from the dealer two cards. These cards are face down. These two cards are your “hole cards”. Everyone looks at the hole cards that they have, and betting begins again based on your evaluation of your hole cards, and those of your opponents, which of course you cannot see.
When you are comfortable with how to play Texas Holdem, then you develop your poker intuition.
If you feel that your cards are good enough or you just feel bold or lucky, you can “call” which requires you to match the previous bet placed. If you think that your cards are really good you should raise the bet. If you don’t like your cards or feel that another player surely has you beaten, then you “fold” your cards, which means lay them face down. You will be then finished for this hand.
The dealer will then “burn” the first card, which means discard it for use at this time.
The dealer then places three cards face up in the middle of the table. This is called the “flop”. the cards in the middle of the table are community cards.
When you start to grasp the strategy of how to play Texas Holdem, you realize you just need to find the best poker hand possible using any combination of your hole cards and the cards face up on the table. It is not necessary to have the best hand to win however. If you can convince the other players using whatever means that you can that they can’t beat your hand. Then it’s possible and even likely, that players with superior hands will lay them down.
That allows you to win. After you learn how to Play Texas Holdem, and get some experience, you will be able to do that and get away with it. It is called “bluffing”
Right after the flop, the betting begins again. The dealer places fourth card in the community pile face up. This card is called the” turn” card. Immediately after the turn betting begins again. Then the dealer places the fifth and final card into the community pile. This is called the “river” card.
After the river card is dealt, then there is the final round of betting. At that point the players still remaining in the game show their hands. Then the person with the best poker hand wins the pot.
