On Saturday, November 7th, 2009, I had the privilege of lending my gift of Tarot reading to the “Food for Fortunes” event held at Davidson’s Courtyard in Smith Falls, Ontario.
Organized by Karen Bradford and Adrienne Hawe, the fair offered the public Natural Healing experiences at affordable prices. These included reiki, chair massage, Indian head massage, reflexology and professional Tarot readings. The fairs entrance fee, a non-perishable food item.
How could a can of peas get one into a fair you wonder? Because the purpose was to aid in the local food banks annual struggle to meet its community’s needs at Christmas.
In our hectic world it is easy to get wrapped up in the ebb and flow of our own daily existence; and with Christmas being an especially stressful time, we can forget to stick our heads up and look around us.
That Saturday however, this was not the case. It wasn’t long before Davidson’s Courtyard was crowded as so many came out, with can or box in hand, to experience the food fair and share in the fun.
I was thrilled to see many of my piers and fellow readers who had also come to lend their time and unique talents to such a worthy cause. I was also blown away by all the eager support from within Smith Falls and its surrounding communities.
At the end of any busy day it’s always emotionally rewarding to have helped someone and that day was most rewarding indeed. At the days end I learned that eight large boxes of donated food had been collected. Also, a collection of several hundred dollars to purchase more food had been taken up and given by all the volunteers who had taken part in the event. It was great to see people reaching out to help others who are in need.
To all the volunteers and those who came out to donate or show their support, thank you for being so willing to give of your-selves! A job well done!

As for my self, I was happy to be a part of it and it’s great to know that community spirit is still alive & well!
